Digital Carving v.2 by spiddyocksgosouth Digital Carving v.2 by spiddyocksgosouth
Another one of my test pieces cut out on a 3d milling machine. This time cut out of red oak. I should be finishing a box soon with a texture similar to this one cut out of maple, but I've been having some problems with the programming & finding time to do it. :(

Modelled in Rhino, programmed in Visual Mill.

with these sorts of models try a bigger diam cutter and a small stepover to get a smoother surface (if thats what you want).Think too of the direction of toolpath relative to the grain direction. Nice forms.

Thanks dude. Oh by the way, I just checked your myspace and I saw that printed model and I couldn't help but think, I wish I had that machine to print the quarter scale model I'm working on right now, not to mention the eigth scale. Gotta love rapid prototyping. Anyway gotta go man, hope school's going ok.
